Observations from the Mets’ spring training game Thursday:
Fast blast
Brandon Nimmo finished 2-for-2 with a homer leading off the game for the Mets in their 8-4 exhibition victory over the Nationals in Port St. Lucie. Nimmo returned to center field after starting at DH the previous day.
Running men
The Nationals were 3-for-4 in stolen-base attempts against James McCann and Mets relievers. Victor Robles finished with two of those steals.
Caught my eye
Former Mets boss Fred Wilpon watched the first few innings of the game from behind home plate. Wilpon, whose family sold the team to Steve Cohen in October, was in camp for the second time this spring.
Friday’s schedule
The Mets have a blank day on the schedule, and the complex will be closed.
